In 2001, Finning International Inc., the world’s largest Caterpillar dealer, donated 18.5-acres of land in the False Creek Flats to British Columbia’s leading post-secondary institutions: University of British Columbia (“UBC”), Simon Fraser University (“SFU”), British Columbia Institute of Technology (“BCIT”) and Emily Carr University of Art + Design (“ECU”). This gift resulted in the creation of the Great Northern Way Campus Trust (“Trust”), pursuant to which the four post-secondary institutions are beneficiaries, and a company as equal Shareholders in Great Northern Way Campus Ltd. (“GNWC”), to manage the land, assets, academic programming and income. The four post-secondary institutions are equal shareholders of GNWC.
Guided by the four Shareholders, a Board of Directors, advisory Committees and a dedicated management team, Great Northern Way Campus Ltd. manages and operates real estate development and property management, financial and endowment management and the academic programs at Centre for Digital Media, including the Master of Digital Media graduate degree program.
