Congratulations are in order for MDM Executive Director and Centre for Digital Media CEO, Dr. Gerri Sinclair. She was awarded the Entrepreneurship Fellow Award by the British Columbia Innovation Council (BCIC) on Monday, October 26 at Connect '09, the premier event for technology start-ups and innovators.

The prize, valued at $20,000, acknowledges Gerri's outstanding record on the commercialization of innovative technologies in BC. Gerri's cross-domain career spans more than 20 years and covers the fields of internet and new media technology, entrepreneurial business, academic research and government policy.

Industry visionary Don Mattrick and Centre for Digital Media's Director of Business Development, Jeannette Kopak, endorsed the nomination put forth by Centre for Digital Media's Director of Industry Relations, Dennis Chenard. The nomination was further supported by testimonials from a variety of industry stakeholders who recognize the impact Dr. Sinclair has had and will continue to have on the digital media industry.

"I have known Gerri for many years and have always been extremely impressed with her drive and enthusiastic approach to whatever she is advocating," said Don Mattrick, currently the Senior Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business, Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "She is tireless and unmatched in terms of her passion and positive attitude in getting things done.  I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award."

In true collaborative fashion, Gerri will be soliciting students for their input on how the prize money will be invested and/or which entrepreneurial venture will be chosen.
