The First Annual Great Northern Way Campus BBQ was held last week for all of the tenants on the Great Northern Way campus.
While munching down on the regular barbeque treats like hamburgers, sliders and ice cream sandwiches, students from the CDM apartments and the MDM Program mixed with their neighbours in both the arts and digital media industries. The student tenants include graduate students from all four of the Campus’ four partner institutions, UBC, SFU, BCIT and Emily Carr.
The Centre for Digital Media (CDM) is the home of more than just the Master of Digital Media Program and apartments, it also houses:
- GRAND, the graphics, animation and new media research network.
- Blackbird Interactive, a game design studio.
- Conquer Mobile, a mobile application development company.
- Bandai Namco, a game design studio.
- Ayogo, a digital media company specializing in health applications.
- eatART Foundation, a foundation that fosters research on large-scale digital art projects.
In addition to the CDM, other buildings and tenants include Scalar, who runs a shared render farm for the Vancouver Studio Group; the Equinox Gallery and Monte Clark Gallery; Hipposonic Music and Eclipse Productions.
The BBQ was a chance to enjoy the sunshine and mingle with the community on campus.
Dennis Chenard, Director of Industry Relations said about the event,
We had a perfect evening of mixing with the vibrant community we have here on site at the Centre for Digital Media. It was great seeing our Master of Digital Media and IDEA-X students mingling with our industry developers on site as well as additional industry friends of the CDM who visited the party. The beers, BBQ and ice cream were a great reason for many of us to leave our desks and enjoy the sunshine but most importantly it was a great way to get to know our neighbours. I appreciate all the help everyone put in to make the event a great success and look forward to future mixers with the amazing community we are building here.
