2013 IDEA-X 48-Hour Design Jam

The 2013 IDEA-X students presented their 48-Hour Design Jam projects last week, where they had 2 days to rapidly prototype their project ideas for motion activated games and mobile apps into a workable model.

This year’s projects included a motion game for parties, a motion-controlled chicken shooting game, a rehabilitation motion game and a location based singles-meeting app.

The 2013 IDEA-X Program is finishing its third week today. 19 students and 2 faculty members from the Communication University of China came to the Centre for Digital Media at the beginning of the month for this 4-week digital media bootcamp.

IDEA-X wraps up next week with students presenting their final game prototypes and animation creations to a Dragon’s Den panel of industry representations and Master of Digital Media students.

About IDEA-X

IDEA-X is a 4-week boot camp that teaches international undergraduate students the fundamentals of collaborative design and rapid prototyping while helping them improve their English language proficiency. Students learn to develop ideas into realizable goals, interact with industry leaders, and produce interactive digital media products for their portfolios. They also get a chance to tour local businesses, attend guest lectures and work on industry-facing projects with Master of Digital Media students.

In addition, the program has also been a useful jumping off point for students who wish to enter the Master of Digital Media program. Since IDEA-X’s inception 3 years ago, 2 students have successfully earned their Master of Digital Media degree, 3 are in the process and one is currently pursuing her PhD from SFU
