On Wednesday night, we hosted an Open House here at the Centre for Digital Media. The focus of the evening was how an MDM degree helped two alumni create and build their companies. People interested in the program, along with current students, alumni, faculty and staff, got together to talk about life at the CDM and what it's like to get an MDM degree.
Yasmeen Awadh, our Senior Student Recruitment Coordinator, presented the MDM program with slides, explaining the program's unique environment, the curriculum, the application process, the types of industry-projects that students work on, and scholarship opportunities.
Next, MDM alumni entrepreneur Erez Bailey gave a presentation about how he went from an award-winning documentary filmmaker to a successful entrepreneur through the MDM program. Erez recently launched a touch-free mobile education app, BuZoo Story for Android, that helps enhance the communication of children who face extreme development or physical challenges.
MDM alumni, Mike Torillo, spoke on how the MDM program is a chance to meet like-minded people and network with professionals in the industry. He started V7 Entertainment in 2010 with 5 other MDM students after they graduated from the program. Torillo came in to the program thinking that he would work for a big game studio but the experience taught him that what he actually wanted to do is start his own studio. V7 Entertainment now has 18 employees and several games under its belt, including Esoterica America for Xbox Live Indie.
After the alumni presentations, current MDM students introduced themselves and their experience in the program and then guests were taken on a tour of the Centre for Digital Media facilities. The night ended with guests mingling with current students, alumni and faculty, where they got a chance to ask questions about the program.
Thank you to everyone who came out to our Open House!
If you’re interested in the MDM program, there are a couple of new spots available for September 2013.
