MDM faculty Patrick Pennefather was presented this week with The Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding Sound Design & Composition in the production of The Electric Company Theatre's, Studies in Motion. The Vancouver Sun called the play, ". . . a piece of theatre polished to brilliance . . . awe-inspiring . . . it should be seen on major stages around the world."
The Betty Mitchell Awards, also known as The Betty's, are named after pioneer Dr. Betty Mitchell of Calgary’s theatrical community. For the past 12 years, the awards have recognized excellence in the city's professional theatre.
This is Patrick's fifth award for his live and digital media music production. Featured tracks from Studies in Motion, a collection of genre breaking electro-acoustic grooves and melodies can be downloaded from iTunes.
In addition to his ongoing role of faculty at the MDM where he teaches Interdisciplinary Improvisation, Patrick's next major digital music project is moolamix.com, a site that actually lets users make money from mixing music. Stay tuned for the April launch date.
