The Big Push - Winner Announced
The MDM Program is pleased to announce that Pacific Wild is the winner of The Big Push: MDM's Social Change Initiative.
Starting in January, a team of MDM students will work with Pacific Wild on developing dynamic, digital educational materials based on footage taken from remotely-operated, non-invasive cameras capturing wildlife events. The project, called Pacific Wild LIVE, will incorporate this stunning footage with Traditional Ecological Knowledge (stories, vocabulary and natural history), scientific knowledge and the best in environmental education techniques.
Pacific Wild is a non-profit conservation organization committed to defending wildlife and their habitat on Canada’s Pacific coast. Working with a diverse array of communities, First Nations, groups and individuals, Pacific Wild draws upon professional wildlife photography and videography, wireless video transmission technology, underwater and arboreal camerawork and boat-based research to ensure biodiversity protection is at the forefront of land and marine use decisions.
MDM students will work with Pacific Wild’s director and co-founder Ian McAllister, an award winning photographer and recipient of Time Magazine’s “Hero for the Planet” award as well as Canadian Commonwealth scholar Krista Roessingh, the organization’s coordinator and field technician.
