Apply To the Master of Digital Media Program
Thank you for your interest in the Master of Digital Media program.
We understand and appreciate the time involved in completing this application. Admission into the Master of Digital Media Program is competitive, so we encourage you to take your time and submit your best work. While the application process is straightforward, there are several forms and documents that need to be completed and submitted before your application can be reviewed. Before you begin your application, carefully review the MDM Admission Requirements.
Please be advised that while the MDM degrees are awarded by all four academic partner institutions, the designated administrator of the program is Simon Fraser University (SFU) while a student completes their degree requirements. All students of the MDM program are full-time registered students of SFU.
To apply to the MDM program, you will need to complete the Online Application Form through the SFU application system including payment of a non-refundable application fee of $90 for Canadian transcript student applications or $125 for international transcript student applications.
Complete and submit the supplementary documents and forms listed below. All of the following materials must be uploaded through the system and official transcripts mailed to our office.
PLEASE NOTE: This portion of the MDM Program application is facilitated online by Simon Fraser University, Office of the Dean of Graduate Studies. All submitted applications are reviewed by the Graduate Program Committee composed of representatives from all four of the Centre for Digital Media's academic partners
- Samples of Your Work
Upload through the online system AND/OR link to your online portfolio digital samples or works that best demonstrate your skills in digital media. You can draw from a wide range of items including exhibited art, designs, film or video, computer software code (please include and document original code that you created), engineering designs or some other product that resulted from your previous work. Please include a 250 - 500 word summary explaining how the items in the collection relate to each other and to your strengths. If an item is a collaborative effort, please clearly state your role in its production. Check out these tips for preparing your portfolio.
- Letter of Intent / Max 750 words
The following points should be explicitly addressed in the letter of intent: (a) explain your motivation for selecting this degree program (b) summarize your relevant skills, training and experience; (c) describe your proposed interests within the program and (d) indicate how the course of study would contribute to your future intellectual or professional growth.
- Short Formal Essay / Max 750 words
Submit an essay on a topic related to digital media. Demonstrate your knowledge and passion and your ability to write in an academic format.
There will be a section in the online application form, where you will be required to enter your referees' e-mail addresses. This will trigger an e-mail to each referee that will include a unique link, directing them to a site where they may submit their reference letter. It is best to include at least one academic reference and at least one professional reference.

- Official Transcripts
Please mail sealed, official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended to the mailing address below. Transcripts must: (a) be issued from the institution and remain sealed (if they are opened, we cannot accept them as an official copy), (b) be submitted in English or must be accompanied by a translation provided by a certified translator if not in English, and (c) show your degree received and date the degree was received.
- English Language Proficiency
International applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English language through at least one of the following: English proficiency testing (requirements listed here) OR completion of a degree at an institution where the language of instruction and examination was in English in a country where English is the primary language. Submit your testing score online to Simon Fraser University (code: 0999).
