Canadian Blood Services

The Canadian Blood Services' (CBS) Centre for Innovation provides researchers access to blood products for research, including blood components, cord blood, and access to unique data sets.

Through its Blood4Research Facility in Vancouver, they provide researchers with blood products to support their discovery research and applied development projects. Blood for research is collected from donors who are committed to research and/or who cannot donate blood for patient use due to specific exclusion criteria.

Its Blood4Research Facility has the mandate to drive advances in blood collection and storage.  Its primary responsibilities include evaluating new equipment at CBS across Canada, testing new technologies and manufacturing methods, and assessing new products that could improve care for Canadian patients.

In addition to improving the blood collection system, some of the blood collected at the facility is employed by researchers across Canada to find better care options for Canadians with a range of medical conditions.
