Spencer Thompson is a recent graduate of the University of Victoria where he completed his BFA in Creative Writing with an emphasis on screenwriting and filmmaking. He also accompanied his degree with a minor in Business. Spencer has extensive experience with video editing software and certain Adobe Creative Suite products, and also works as a freelance photographer.
During his undergrad, Spencer worked for one year as a Communications Intern with the Victoria Royals hockey club of the Western Hockey League. Alongside a group of other interns, Spencer played a key role in game day operations that included content creation, social media management, and post-game summaries/content.
His passion for storytelling and film led him the Victoria Makerspace where he was the lead script and game designer for a Virtual Reality Tsunami Preparedness Simulation. There, he was introduced to a team full of various backgrounds that brought individual skill sets to create a unified team project. This experience sparked Spencer’s interest in the CDM to ultimately translate his storytelling and design skills into the digital media industry.
Ultimately, Spencer’s goal is to be proficient in UX and UI design and to obtain a better sense of Unity and the corresponding languages that accompany the program. He is looking forward to collaborating with other students and is excited to bring his creative mind into the workforce to create products that will serve a clear purpose and make a significant difference.
