Zack studied Computer Science at Concordia University in his home city of Montreal. With a Bachelor's specialized in Computer Games, he was drawn primarily to artificial intelligence, databases, and software engineering. During his degree he worked with Dr. Nikolaos Tsantalis on JDeodorant, a source code analysis tool for the Eclipse development software. Zack developed a new analysis technique that was published and featured at the International Conference on Software Engineering.
Zack also participated in numerous game jams and competitions sponsored by companies such as Ubisoft and Epic Games, including a ten-week development challenges hosted at Ubisoft headquarters in Montreal, where his team’s game was nominated for best technical achievement.
It was at these game development competitions that Zack found himself acting as a facilitator between the different skillsets and opinions of team members. He became interested in directing and managing teams and this led him to the Centre for Digital Media’s MDM program.
