Providence Health Care, located in Vancouver Canada, is one of the country’s largest Catholic health care organizations. It operates 17 sites, including St. Paul’s Hospital, and serves as a health and wellness resource for families, patients and residents from all parts of the province. It has expertise in six main areas: Heart/Lung; Kidney; Seniors; HIV/AIDS; Urban Health and Mental Health. It has more than 6000 employees, 1130 medical staff, 1600 volunteers and over 200 researchers. Last year it treated over 600,000 patients.
Providence’s commitment to serving the most vulnerable members of society dates back to 1894 when the Sisters of Providence came to Vancouver and opened St. Paul’s Hospital, a 25-bed cottage. It has undergone many changes in its history but continues to be driven by social justice, remaining on the forefront of exceptional care and innovation. It cares for some of society’s most vulnerable populations, recognizing their complex needs and using compassion and respect to help them live healthier lives.
