My recent work is in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, including more than 10 years of experience working on the problem of recognizing document structure and semantics from PDF page images.
In the past, I have been a Professor in three different departments: Physics, Mathematics and Computing Science. I have also been a successful entrepreneur, including as co-founder and President of SchemaSoft, which I sold to Apple in 2005. I have spent most of my career in software R&D, including as Principal Research Scientist during the 8 years I spent at Apple. My particular strength has always been in finding novel algorithms to solve tough mathematically-oriented problems of practical significance.
