Yu (Dorothy) Cao

Yu Dorothy Cao

Dorothy Cao is a passionate UX/UI designer and contemporary visual artist, holding a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from the University of British Columbia. Transforming from a graphic designer to a UX/UI designer, Dorothy is a quick learner and always excited to explore new skills. Dorothy worked as a graphic design intern in the marketing team of Adobe China in 2016, where she had the chance to meet many talented designers and get to know the industry. Then for the past five years, Dorothy contributed herself to help local companies in Vancouver to develop their unique brands’ identity. She has played a few roles in those companies, from VI designer, graphic designer to UX/UI designer, from offline marketing to digital marketing. She also worked as a tutor to teach local kids to develop a basic understanding of graphic design knowledge. Also, as a contemporary artist, Dorothy’s art practice focuses on playing with multimedia to create interactive artworks. Dorothy’s experience makes her realize her interest in interaction design, which leads her to CDM.

Here at the Centre for Digital Media, Dorothy is looking to develop both art and design practice in the digital interaction field. She wants to gain core skills that can make her successful in the digital media industry. It’s Dorothy’s primary goal to combine her knowledge in art and design to make useful and interesting digital products in the real world.

Dorothy speaks Chinese (Mandarin) and is also fluent in English.
