Cross-Platform VR Healthcare Product

Back to Projects

Children facing medical procedures often experience anticipatory anxiety that builds long before treatment begins, and parents frequently carry their own worry alongside them. In these moments, a parent's presence is one of the most reliable sources of reassurance for a child, yet during procedures parents often have no clear or active way to support them, which can deepen the stress on both sides. For pediatric care providers, this leaves a meaningful gap: how to involve both child and parent in emotional preparation and distraction without adding complexity to already demanding clinical environments.

Team Konnect is building a cross platform VR healthcare game which creates a shared journey for a child and their parents. This game will guide a single child and their parents through a calm, story-driven world. Using a mobile device, the parent joins alongside their child, who explores in VR, so the two can support one another and move through gentle challenges together. The design centres on a real-time, cross-device experience built around asymmetrical perspectives, where each player sees and influences the world differently and communication between them becomes essential to progress. By giving parents an active role, the experience aims to ease their anxiety as well as their child's.

Building on prior pediatric anxiety research and ongoing client collaboration, we will refine this experience through rapid prototyping in Unity XR, addressing practical constraints such as secure networking within hospital environments, lightweight data transfer, and fully hands-free interaction for children. The result will be a working MVP composed of two connected applications, one VR and one mobile, offering a scalable model for supporting pediatric emotional well-being through shared, collaborative preparation.
