EOC Simulation Web Game with JIBC
Back to ProjectsThe Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) faces a challenge in providing online students with the same immersive Emergency Operations Center (EOC) training experience as their in-person counterparts. While in-person students actively assume EOC roles in dynamic simulations, online students rely on chat forums to replicate these exercises, resulting in a less impactful learning experience. To bridge this gap between theory and application, FFF Studios of Cohort 19 has been tasked with developing a cutting-edge digital simulation to transform online EOC training into an engaging and realistic learning opportunity.
The proposed simulation will allow online learners to immerse themselves in authentic EOC scenarios, taking on roles such as EOC Director, Operations Section Chief, and Planning Section Chief. Students will be able navigate realistic emergency scenarios, including extreme weather events, with evolving challenges that replicate the pressures of real-world emergencies. Key features will include role-based training, feedback on choices, and gamified elements to increase engagement. This approach will not only enhance skill development but also foster confidence in decision-making, teamwork, and team coordination.
By implementing this innovative solution, JIBC aims to set a new standard for online emergency management education while also providing a valuable refresher tool for EOC personnel to revisit and strengthen their understanding of critical roles and responsibilities. This platform not only prepares students for real-world challenges but also ensures seasoned professionals remain ready to perform effectively during emergencies. With its potential to scale beyond JIBC to other institutions and support diverse scenarios, this accessible, web-based simulation aligns with JIBC’s mission to enhance public safety and disaster response by equipping all learners, regardless of location or experience, to excel in EOC operations.
