Tristen holds an undergraduate degree in Communications-Information Design with a minor in Marketing from Mount Royal University (MRU) in Calgary, AB. Being a one of a kind program in Canada, Tristen has gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in the link between design and human behaviour. In specific, Tristen’s education revolves around audiences and the way in which they approach and conceptualize information.

Tristen’s knowledge is evident in the two work terms and community involvement she has participated in during her undergraduate degree. The first being at WestJet where Tristen created digital games, infographics and high-level process charts for the Learning and Development team in order to train fight attendants and pilots prior to flight. The second being at MRU as an undergraduate teaching assistant in Instructional Design where Tristen researched technological use in older adults and mentored senior fourth-year Information Design students in the classroom.

Aside from the two work terms, Tristen holds a Community Learning Citation (CLC) recognizing that she has completed three, nine credit courses involving community engagement. Here, Tristen has worked with The City of Calgary promoting the cities cycle track pilot project, Canoes of Peru developing a crowdfunding and marketing campaign and the MRU library and health and wellness centre doing usability testing. Community engagement has taught Tristen the fundamentals of applied thinking from being able to take classroom knowledge and apply it to real life case studies.

Tristen’s journey to the Master of Digital Media (MDM) program came from her desire to learn how to work efficiently and effectively with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams to keep pace with the rapidly changing technological and globalizing environment. Tristen believes that in doing so, she has not only become a better team member in solving complex industry problems but she has also developed strong project management skills—enhancing team cohesiveness and project success.
