Ruohao (Jater) Xu | student
A gamer since 1997, with a personal game collection of 1200+ games across different platforms. Jater is currently studying at CDM and pursuing his future career in video game industry. He is a game developer that mainly focused on design and technical parts of video game development pipeline. He comes from a computer science background that emphasis on video game design, gameplay programming, and computer graphics.
Jater graduated from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, Computer Science: Game Development Honours program, and received 2017-2018 dean's honours list reward for his academic performance. Prior to joining CDM, Jater was a teaching assist of the 4th-year game development course in Carleton University. He helped the professor to teach students with knowledges related to designing and programming in video game engines such as Unity, Unreal and Ogre3D.
Jater designed and programmed more than 10 personal game projects and several software applications as a part of his undergraduate study experiences and his personal hobby. For his undergraduate honour project, he developed a Virtual Reality rhythm game that uses SteamVR SDK and Nvidia VRWorks technologies.
Besides game design and programming, Jater also self-learned music composition since 2012. He completed 2 instrumental music albums on iTunes Store and he has composed multiple soundtracks for his own game projects that feature different music styles.
With years of study accumulation and progressing in game design, game development, and game music composition. Jater successfully turned one academic game project into a commercial game product, he released an indie augmented reality mobile game - Pagoda Defender AR, on iOS AppStore in late 2017, the game is developed in a group of 4 people in Unity Engine, it has been updated multiple times with new game contents after the release. The game integrated the latest cutting-edge technologies such as ARKit and 3D Touch on the mobile device with an arcade tower defence design. Jater has versatile roles during the development phase of this project, such as programmer, designer, project manger, and music composer.
Jater is passionate about game design and development. He is also motivated to learn in-depth knowledges in the digital media from different perspectives to discover more related knowledges of video games. He is prepared to work hard in the video game industry as a designer or programmer in the future.
