Yuan Zhang


Yuan Zhang is a 3D modeler and concept artist. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in sculpture and extended media from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Yuan believes good digital work should go beyond the technical surface. Just like fine art, there is more beneath the surface. Good design requires a strong foundation and every detail has a reason behind it.

In 2018, Yuan taught 3D Modeling and Animation classes at VCU in the Kinetic Imaging Department. Juan taught both Maya and Arnold to students in two classes. 

From 2016-2018 Yuan created 2 games for multiple exhibitions within the university, Welcome, an interactive conformity demonstration and B-side‚ a multi-level 2 player game. He worked as a 3D Generalist and on the game concept in the development of these two games. 

Yuan has worked with Professor Semi Ryu at VCU as a technical artist. He developed an interactive experience for cancer patients called The Patients. This successful art project helped patients manage their mental state during the difficult time in their lives. He was using Maya and Zbrush to create 3D environment and Perception Neuron Motion Capture suite for patients' inputs.

Yuan's goal with the MDM Program is to meet more people who are interested in digital media and learn from each other. He wants to gain more knowledge and hopes to explore the film and video game industry as an Environment Artist or 3D Generalist.
