Child-Centered Mobile AR Experience with Bumigumi Entertainment
Back to ProjectsChildren today are growing up in a world where digital experiences increasingly replace unstructured outdoor play, local exploration, and meaningful connection with their surrounding environment. While technology has become deeply integrated into childhood, many platforms designed for younger audiences prioritize passive consumption and screen retention over curiosity, creativity, and real-world engagement. As a result, opportunities for children to build emotional connections with nature, community spaces, and imaginative outdoor discovery are becoming less common. For families, educators, and children’s media creators, this raises an important question: how can technology encourage children to reconnect with the physical world in ways that feel magical, emotionally meaningful, and intrinsically motivating?
In partnership with Bumigumi Entertainment, our team is developing a child-centered mobile augmented reality experience that blends storytelling, exploration, and lightweight AR interaction to transform outdoor spaces into playful narrative environments. Through approachable characters, location-based discovery, and environmental storytelling, the experience encourages children and families to explore real-world locations while fostering curiosity, observation, and emotional engagement.
Our approach combines child-centered UX research, narrative design, AR interaction design, and rapid prototyping workflows to create an experience that is accessible, emotionally engaging, and technically feasible within a mobile environment. The team will iteratively develop gameplay systems, interaction mechanics, visual direction, and exploration-based user flows within Unity while researching children’s digital engagement, accessibility, and outdoor play behaviors.
The anticipated outcome is a polished MVP mobile AR prototype supported by gameplay systems, interactive UX flows, visual development assets, and production documentation, demonstrating a scalable framework for exploration-driven and emotionally meaningful children’s experiences.
