Dr. Rachel Ralph (BA, BEd, MET, PhD) is a faculty member in the Master of Digital Media program offered at the Centre for Digital Media who teaches Foundations of Digital Media, Visual Story, electives, and supervises student project teams.

Rachel has been an educator for over fifteen years and has worked as a digital media and curriculum consultant. In the MDM program, Rachel focuses on visual storytelling, agile management and applied research across a variety of projects.

As a certified Scrum Master® and Certified Agile Leader (CAL1), Rachel guides others through agile methodologies. She embodies the role of agile leadership practices while maintaining the Kanban board in her office and strives to find that balance between agile and waterfall (or the hybrid 'watergile'), while maintaining good team practices and team leadership. She offers a Leadership and Agile Production Management Microcredential through SFU. Rachel also works on a large UBC Education SSHRC funded research project with ALIVE lab (link: https://alivelab.ca/) exploring STEAM virtual gaming environments.

She also highly encourages students to strike a work/life balance as she tries to do by always taking a course, creating art, writing a kid’s book, or volunteering at Bard on the Beach (Volunteer of the Year 2019). Rachel is also a published children’s book author. Rachel was also a team member (with another faculty (Bill Zhao) and several C13 students) on the international Niantic Developer Contest in which the team (Ninth Wonder) were in the Top 10.

Dr. Rachel Ralph received the Distinguished Teaching Excellence Award by Simon Fraser University in 2023. She is grateful for the recognition and looking forward to continuing her passion for education.
